Finely carved ivory, partially openworked. Filigree mounting of yellow gold. The handle is an Asian relief with the seated Buddha Shakyamuni made of gilt bronze, yellow-green glass (pâte-de-verre) and coloured and glass stones. Original leather case from Cartier. Weight 31,5g. Comes with EU sales permit for ivory objects.
South German private collection, acquired in London in the 1980s.
The House of Cartier often used original Asian works in their goldsmith's work in the 1920s.
